What is a Podcast?

Podcasting is a new technology that has taken the world by storm over the past few years. I first discovered podcasting when some of my favourite websites started creating regular podcasts and I started to investigate what went into the making of a podcast.

You can think of a podcast as being like a radio show. The only difference is that a podcast is downloaded as audio files that can be listened to on your computer, on an mp3 player, or on an iPod.

Podcasting for free?

Podcasting is a lot of fun and cost should not be a concern. If you use the right tools you will be able to create and publish your own podcast for free. Everything I discuss on this site will not cost you a penny.

Before you start:

• You should know basically what a podcast is. You don't have to know any of the technical information but being a regular listener to any podcast is a good grounding.
• Have iTunes on your computer. I refer to iTunes a few times as an example. It is currently the most popular way to download podcasts and downloading it is free.
